La arquitectura es, sobre todo, situaciones. Situaciones que se construyen a partir de tecnologías. Esto tiene algo de novedoso y algo que ha sido siempre de este modo. Mirando así puedes innovar muchísimo porque te sientes libre de ataduras que la arquitectura ha tenido hasta ahora. Por ejemplo, que cualquier cosa se resuelve mediante la edificación, que lo más relevante son los muros o que lo permanente es lo importante.

In implementing the plan, modern architecture relied on infrastructure above all else. A city's modernity was dependent on its infrastructure, something we can see in the Hausmannization of Paris... Modern architecture would be mere pastiche without the infrastrcutures to support it...

In pure analysis these infrastructures form the basis of the contemporary city, buy they are vastly different from the infrastructures of old. Rather than being executed in conformance with the outline of a plan, they are networked, hypercomplex systems produced by technology, laws, political pressures, disciplinary desires, environmental constraints and a myridad of other pressures, tied together with feedback mechanisms...

The right to the city... is far more than a right to individual or group access to the resources that the city embodies: it is a right to change and re-invent the city more after our heart's desire... The freedom to make and remake ourselves and our cities is... on of the most precious yet most neglected of our human rigths. Perhaps for this intuitive reason, the city has been the focus throughout history of an immense outpouring of utopian desires for happier futures and less alienating times.
